Seek Spiritual Discernment

Discernment, which is a gift from God, aligns our perspective with His truth.

Proverbs 2:1-7

At one time or another, we all feel confused, uncertain, or misled. In those moments, spiritual discernment becomes invaluable. The ability to see life from a godly perspective helps us navigate decisions with confidence. Through His Spirit, we can better distinguish between right and wrong, good and best, truth and error.

Instead of relying solely on appearances or human reasoning, we can invite the Holy Spirit to help us see the reality of each situation as God does. This doesn’t mean abandoning common sense or wise counsel, but it does mean including God’s perspective as we evaluate our choices.

The Father gives each of His children the capacity for spiritual discernment, yet many believers don’t realize this gift is available to them. They do their best with the wisdom and knowledge they have but miss out on the deeper insight God offers. When we don’t actively cultivate discernment through time with Him, this gift can remain undeveloped.

A discerning spirit begins with a humble, teachable attitude (1 Cor. 2:12-13). If you’ve been handling decisions primarily through your own wisdom, acknowledge this to God. Then ask Him to reveal His viewpoint. As you practice inviting Him into your decision-making, your spiritual discernment will grow.
